New York City and upstate are effectively two separate markets. City access is genuinely constrained by street width and bridge rules, while upstate behaves like a normal midwest style corridor along I-90.

Dense old cities are the real constraint here, not distance. A seventy five foot car carrier cannot legally turn into most of Boston, Philadelphia, or the older parts of New York, and it cannot park on a narrow residential street while it loads. Drivers meet customers at a shopping centre or a wide arterial nearby, which is normal practice and not a downgrade in service. Anyone promising a full size carrier to a brownstone doorstep is telling you what you want to hear.

This is the densest freight region in the country, which cuts both ways. Carrier supply is deep, so a car rarely waits long for a truck.
